First off let me say thank you to anyone who responds - I'm sure this question has been asked a thousand times.
I'm using the version of mame (mameuifx32_0132) that is on this site - no FE right now and the X-Arcade Tankstick that I bought about a month ago. According to the help that I've found online with X-Arcade, the Tankstick is configured appropriately (right mode, etc) and is connected via USB. The default option in Mame that lists the X-Arcade as a controller, can be selected, but it won't let me change any of the mapping. I know that its supposed to emulate the keyboard and mouse - so I've experimented with using Standard as a choice and X-arcade. Both present problems. Standard - I have no joystick control but the buttons seem to work appropriately. X-Arcade option - I have joystick control but the main buttons are messed up.
So there it is - any help would be greatly appreciated. Any if anyone wants to help me cut the plywood so I don't screw that up, there's a six pack in it for ya
Settings are also unified so configuration is done once and you're all set for every emulator. We show our recommended settings for the X-Arcade in Mode 1 below, but if you are starting from scratch you can simply download our retroarch.cfg file and drop it in your RetroArch directory (overwriting the original).
I'm new to MAME and trying to configure the computer, controls, etc before I go outside and play with tools and wood to build the cabinet - and I'm having a hard time getting the X-Arcade Tankstick that I bought to work with MAME.
Keep in mind that MAME itself has a cfg file too in the /ctrlr subdirectory, so if you change the default config for ALL games, it is stored in the Xarcade.cfg file (or whatever your device is). So before you go monkeying with your default config (input general), you might want to make a copy of that file for backup. People using X-Arcade controllers will have the easiest time, since there is already a config file available for MAME. – It’s easiest to configure MaLa in a resolution that’s higher than 240p. If you plan on using your setup in 240p, it’s best to configuring everything in 640×480 (or higher), test the setup, then switch to 240p as the.

Retroarch is actually more of a modular emulator interface than a frontend which allows you to plug emulators into it by way of 'cores'. It enables you to run classic games on a wide range of computers and consoles through its slick graphical interface. Settings are also unified so configuration is done once and you're all set for every emulator.
